Terrain
The hunting terrain is located predominantly in the foothills of the Sapphire Mountains in western Montana. It includes a dryland hay field, sagebrush areas, open to dense timber, open parks and meadows and numerous springs. A creek with native cutthroat and brook trout runs the length of the ranch. The west side of the ranch has an altitude of 4500 ft and the top of Willow Mountain is approximately 8200 ft. Depending on where you choose to hunt the terrain can be very steep and rugged.
The way our ranch is situated a hunter can walk existing trails and roads or strike out across country. Either way the terrain is gaining or losing elevation. This is a physically demanding hunt so we recommend hunters be in good to excellent physical condition. We also recommend hunters take the usual precaution of packing extra clothing, a map, compass or GPS, whistle, water, snacks, fire starting materials and a small first aid kit. It is the hunters responsibility to know their location. We recommend the use of a hand held GPS. The app "onXmaps Hunts" is also very helpful if you have a smartphone.
